Greetings from your College of Engineering and Physical Sciences Student Council!

We hope you all had a lovely long weekend, full of delicious food, family, and lots of productivity! Who are we kidding, that last one didn’t happen… but it’s the thought that counts. Here’s everything you need to know from CEPS this month.

  1. CEPS Club Updates

Physics Club:

Come out to the Brass Taps on Wednesday October 18 from 7-11 to socialize with Physics professors in the department! Special appearances by Martin Williams, Mike Massa, Rob Wickham, Leonid Brown, Joanne O’Meara, Dennis Mucher, and Eric Poisson! Free food available and Wellington pints for $4.75.

SoCIS:

Just a heads up that the meeting location has changed to Room 101 in the J.D. MacLachlan building. Still Mondays at 5:30 pm so we hope to see you there.

  1. Get Involved with CEPSSC!

Year Rep Elections next week!

This month you’ll be able to vote for YOUR year representative on CEPSSC! Their job is to make sure your concerns are heard and addressed. Election period will be happening from the 17th to the 20th on Gryphlife, keep a look out for the email to vote in your inboxes next week.

College Royal CEPSSC Clubs Director Position!

This position will be appointed by the CEPSSC board. Responsibilities would include going to College Royal Society meetings at 5:30pm on Tuesday evenings, and facilitating contact between the VP-Open House of College Royal Society, CEPSSC, and CEPSSC/Engsoc-affiliated clubs. If you have any questions, please contact kkeon@uoguelph.ca. Please apply by noon on Monday, Oct. 23rd by contacting cpapalaz@uoguelph.ca.

  1. CEPPSC Merchandise

Whether you’re looking to show off some school spirit or having to do laundry a little too often, CEPSSC has got you covered (literally). We will be selling hats and two types of t-shirts this semester, with one having the option to customize with your major. Look out for an email next week with previews of the designs and prices. Orders will be due by 31st of October and expected to arrive mid-November.

  1. What’s Happening this Month on Campus

From our friends over at the College of Biological Sciences – applicable for any student in a B.Sc program!

Course Selection Information Session

Are you worrying about the course selection? Not sure which is the right elective for you?

No fret no worries! CBSSC will be holding an info night session for all 1st Year & 2nd Year students to talk about the Course Selection.

Here, you can ask any questions about the courses, what are some good science and/or free electives for your program! You can also learn more about common science electives and core courses from the academic advisors!

It is happening 11th October, at 7 pm until 8.30pm, in the Science Complex Atrium!

Graduate Studies Preview Day

Join us for Graduate Studies Preview Day this Saturday, October 14th, 2017 from 10am-1pm in the University Centre. You will have the opportunity to meet with faculty, staff and current graduate students to learn more about Guelph’s graduate programs, research opportunities, funding and joining a diverse community of over 2,600 highly intelligent and committed fellow graduate students and researchers.

Aboriginal Awareness Week

The Aboriginal Student Association will be offering free coffee from 9:30-10:30am on October 16th in Branion Plaza for Aboriginal Awareness week for anyone of any background with a reusable mug. Additionally, the Sounds of the Nation event will be taking place from 7-10pm in Peter Clark Hall, free snacks and drinks will be provided.   1. International Opportunities

Interested in gaining research experience in China, India, Germany or France in Summer 2018? Successful applicants will receive a travel scholarship from the Province of Ontario. To learn more about the research opportunity in Germany or China, attend one of the sessions listed below. The directors of each program will be here to share information and answer questions. Information sessions for the programs in India and France will be announced at a later time.

OBW (Germany) – limited to Science and Engineering students
