***CEPSSC Elections*** Nominations, Info Night TONIGHT, Open Mic FRIDAY!


Hello friends,

Here’s an update on this year’s CEPSSC elections! All current executive members will be in our office TONIGHT (March 7th) from 5:30 pm until 7 — if you have questions about any of the positions available, this is a great time to get some answers! Learn about the day-to-day function of these roles and the best parts about them.

As well, please refer to the attached PDF of the CEPSSC election time line. Get your nomination form (completed by someone else) and nominee form (completed by you) in as soon as possible! For anyone who has already completed these forms, please email cepssc@uoguelph.ca before noon on Sunday to be included in next Monday’s meeting, where you will have an opportunity to explain why you’re the perfect choice for the position!

Lastly, take a break to celebrate midterms ending by attending our Open Mic event this FRIDAY, at Brass Taps from 6:30 pm until 8 pm. Entrance is FREE and everyone is encouraged to participate. Nachos will be on us for the night!

1. Club Updates

Chemistry and Biochemistry Club
The Chemistry and Biochemistry Club is excited to announce a trip to the Ontario Science Centre on Sunday March 4th!  Join us in exploring Ontario’s premier location for experiencing awesome science first hand!  The bus will be leaving from the UC at 8:30 AM and leaving the science centre at 5 PM to return to campus by 6:30 PM.  Tickets are $20 or $26 to include a ticket for the IMAX movie (3pm:  A Beautiful Planet).  Lunch can be purchased at the science centre or a bagged lunch can be brought.  Please email chemclub@uoguelph.ca to reserve your ticket, the deadline is Friday, February 16th at 4 PM.
EngiQueers Guelph
Are you a fan of making long-lasting memories with your friends and loved ones? Do you like supporting super awesome charities that help lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals escape violence and persecution in their home countries, such as Rainbow Railroad?? Then EngiQueers has you covered!!!
Come to our “Love is Love” photo booth event this Wednesday (Valentine’s Day) in the Thorn Atrium from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm. It’s by donation, pay whatever you can — every bit helps!

2. CEPSSC Winter Event: CEPSSC on Ice!

Sharpen your skates and come downtown to the City Hall rink to join CEPSSC for a casual skate day. Beginners and experts are welcome 🙂
Skates are available to rent nearby if you don’t have any!
The event will end at 3 pm officially, but you are welcome to join the group as we move somewhere for a nice hot beverage afterwards.This is perfect for anyone who is sticking around for reading week or is planning on coming back early!

3. What’s Happening on Campus this Month

Fall 2018 Peer Helper Opportunities – apply by Feb 14!

Want to boost your resume with new experiences? The Peer Helper Program is now recruiting for placements starting in Fall 2018… and this is one of our biggest recruitment cycles ever!

We’re looking for 93 new Peer Helpers to join over 15 different teams… and each one is a little different. For example, you could help students with their job search at Career Services, promote a healthy campus with the Wellness Education Centre, or share your love of learning with Supported Learning Groups (SLG) or Learning Services! Other teams include: Off-Campus Living, English Language Programs, Multi-Faith Ambassadors, Civic Engagement and Sustainability Office. With this much choice, there’s something for every interest!

Benefits include professional skill development, quality training and coaching from campus staff, and recognition of participation on your official academic transcript. Join a campus legacy of students helping students.

The Student Transition Office (STO) is currently looking to hire 20 START Facilitators for its peer support program. In this role, facilitators will provide on-going one-on-one assistance to students who self-identify as needing support with their transition or who have been identified as being academically at risk. Upper year students who have significant experience in leadership roles that emphasize helping relationships, and who possess a strong understanding of, and sensitivity toward, diversity related issues are strongly encouraged to apply.

Math and Stats Club:

The Math and Stats club is happy to announce a euchre tournament on Friday February 2nd at the Brass Taps. The tournament starts at 630 but please arrive by 6pm to ensure a prompt start. There will be prizes for the winners of the tournament:) Please email msclub@uoguelph.ca to register you and your partners name. If you do not have a partner please indicate this so we may partner you with another individual. How fun! We’re really looking forward to this and can’t wait to see all of you card players there.


Our meetings this semester will take place every Tuesday at 5:30 in Thornbrough 2420.
We will be having an introductory SOCIS meeting next Tuesday, the 23rd, and encourage anyone interested in learning about SOCIS and Computing related events to join us.
We also want to remind students that the Guelph Hacks Improve Life Challenge will be taking place from Friday, January 26th at 7:30pm until Sunday, January 28th at 6:00pm. To learn more, check out @GuelphHacks on twitter or send an e-mail to exec@socis.ca.

2. CEPSSC Update: Annual Fire and Ice Banquet!!!

Just a reminder to you all to get your tickets for the annual Fire and Ice Banquet taking place at Cutten Fields (190 College Ave E, Guelph) this Friday at 6pm!!

This fantastic dinner, dance and social with cash bar is the one of the largest and fanciest CEPSSC events of the year. If you have never been, we promise you won’t be disappointed! If you have been before, we hope to see you again.

For the rest of the week, tickets can be purchased at the CEPSSC office (SSC 1505/6) at the following times:

3. What’s Happening on Campus this Month

Winter Project Serve Day

Want to volunteer, make connections, and have fun?

Winter Project Serve Day is on Saturday, January 20th from 11-4:30!

Just the like the fall, a bunch of students will go out into the community to make a huge impact. There are a variety of partners from the Food Bank, to the Green Legacy tree nursery, to the Donkey Sanctuary and more! Meet downtown at 10C (across from city hall), you get a free t-shirt, free lunch, and then you get to volunteer for 3 hours and make a huge impact.

There are a few ways you can get involved:
Want to give back and gain leadership experience? Sign up as a team leader this time.
Want to be a participant again? Sign up as an individual or small group (up to 4).
Want to bring your res section, club, team etc? Sign up as a group!

OzTREKK’s Study in Australia Fairs are where you can learn more about how you can study in Australia! Three times a year we bring our Australian partners to Canada to speak directly to students and answer all your questions.
No registration required, stop by anytime during the fair!

OzTREKK will be on campus in the UC Courtyard on Tuesday January 23, 2018 from 10:00am-2:00pm.

Guelph Table Tennis Club

If one of your new years resolutions was to get more involved in your community, here is a perfect opportunity for you! The Guelph Table Tennis Club, City of Guelph, and the Guelph Wellington Seniors Association are hosting their 1st ever Table Tennis Tournament on the 4th of March at the Evergreen Seniors Community Centre. Get a group together of you and your friends and play, or consider volunteering. Leadership Intensive program

Ready to take your leadership skills to the next level? Then consider applying to the Leadership Intensive program! The LI is a program designed to take your leadership knowledge and skill to the next level using theory and practice in an interactive and thoughtful way. The programs takes place over the course of the entire semester with a full day near the beginning and end of the program (February/March), workshop participation requirements, learning group meetings, and a final capstone reflection piece. Special Newsletter: Fire and Ice Banquet!!!


Welcome back everyone! We hope you have all settled in nicely.

CEPSSC is happy to announce that the annual Fire and Ice Banquet has been revamped and will be held on January 19th 2018 at Cutten Fields! This is the same location as last year and is conveniently located right next to campus by East Residences (190 College Avenue East, Guelph).

This fantastic dinner, dance and social with cash bar is the one of the largest and fanciest CEPSSC events of the year. If you have never been, we promise you won’t be disappointed! If you have been before, we hope to see you again. Tickets are available during executive office hours, as scheduled below:

CEPSSC Annual Fire & Ice Banquet and Exam Office Hours!


Hello lovely CEPS students!

We hope you are doing well this exam season. To keep your spirits up, we are starting ticket sales to our annual Fire and Ice Banquet next year! The event takes place at 6 pm on the 19th January, 2018, at Cutten Fields (190 College Ave E). If you get your ticket this semester, the price is only $30 and it will go up to $35 next semester, so make sure to take advantage of this deal!

Ticket purchases will take place during CEPSSC exam office hours, as listed below:

President, Kristine Keon, 7th and 8th December from 9 am to 12 pm
